L’ISTITUTO ELVETICO DI GARANZIA S.A. was founded in 2012, drawing on the experience of its shareholders, who have operated for decades in the manufacturing, international consultancy and financial sectors. L’ISTITUTO ELVETICO DI GARANZIA S.A. was incorporated in Switzerland because of the country’s position as a leading international business centre and a major global hub for financial activities. Being a Swiss entity also provides legal, administrative, economic and tax advantages that are difficult to obtain in other jurisdictions.

Since its incorporation, L’ISTITUTO ELVETICO DI GARANZIA S.A. has focused not only on large companies but also on small and medium-sized enterprises with a strong international orientation, significant technical expertise and sound financial standing that require a highly qualified professional partner to support their activities.

L’ISTITUTO ELVETICO DI GARANZIA S.A. specialises in assessing the reasonableness, sustainability and profitability of new industrial, commercial, property and construction projects already undertaken or proposed by companies seeking a highly qualified professional partner. The Institute also conducts in-depth economic, statistical, commercial, industrial and property-related studies, research and analyses on behalf of its industrial, property and commercial clients.

L’ISTITUTO ELVETICO DI GARANZIA S.A. issues simple surety bonds guaranteeing the fulfilment of its clients’ commercial obligations towards third parties. In some cases, the Institute prepares its own assessments, which clients may use to facilitate obtaining guarantees from third parties. In other cases, the Institute acts directly to arrange for third-party entities to issue guarantees to its clients.

The Institute issues declarations and/or certificates concerning the creditworthiness of industrial, property, commercial and construction investments already undertaken or proposed by clients applying for simple surety bonds. These declarations often allow clients to avoid providing collateral or to provide collateral for a lower amount than would normally be required.

The requested guarantees may therefore be issued either by the Institute or, with the client’s express consent, by third-party entities.

The Institute’s comprehensive assessment process may also assist clients in obtaining guarantees from third parties or negotiating a reduction in the amount of such guarantees with their counterparties. In some cases, it may enable clients to obtain the cancellation of guarantees initially requested by their counterparties.

L’ISTITUTO ELVETICO DI GARANZIA S.A. serves clients applying for surety bonds in more than 70 countries. Over the years, it has therefore established ongoing professional relationships with professional practices and firms located in most of the countries where its clients are based and operate. During the past three years, there has been an increase in the number of clients requesting surety bonds and guarantees for commercial, industrial and construction activities to be carried out in Central Africa and the Middle East.

Following an assessment conducted under the 2001 Basel regulatory framework, the Institute received an A− rating.

Introduced by the Basel II Accords, a corporate rating serves as an international benchmark for assessing a company.

The Institute has been a member of GROUPE MUTUEL – Swiss Collective Foundation for several years.

Given the strong international demand for surety bonds and guarantees, the prospects for further development of the Institute’s activities involving simple surety bonds and guarantees issued by third-party entities are considered highly positive.

L’ISTITUTO ELVETICO DI GARANZIA S.A. serves clients based or domiciled in various foreign countries, both within and outside the European Economic Area. All applications concerning Swiss, EEA and non-EEA clients are processed at its Swiss offices.

All contracts, simple surety bonds, creditworthiness certificates and/or declarations, together with the related administrative and accounting documents, are issued at its registered office in Chiasso.

From its Chiasso office, the Institute sends contracts, simple surety bonds, creditworthiness certificates and/or declarations, together with the related administrative and accounting documentation, to its clients wherever they are based or domiciled.

All clients’ paper and electronic records, contracts, simple surety bonds, creditworthiness certificates and/or declarations, together with the related commercial, legal, administrative and accounting documentation, are stored exclusively at the Institute’s offices in Switzerland.
